Change and the Unknown

I usually embrace change, probably because I get bored easily. As long as that change is not reefing me out of the pan into the fire.

If you're not sure of what the future holds, would you jump for the chance of a better offer?

This is my dilemma.

I really do enjoy my job and where I work, but the possibility of it all changing is very real and I don't want the decision of who I work for taken out of my hands.  So I'm taking the power back and trying to secure a future elsewhere.  What worries me is the unknown.  If I move on and I don't enjoy the job, then find out that everything went on as before at my old workplace (or even improved!), I'll have really leapt into the fire!

But that's the risk you take when you're scared of change, things will be different and it's how you handle it that will make it a good change or a hellish one.  You never know what the future holds so you may as well make your own fate and welcome the change.

Anyway, that's what I'm doing this week.  I'll let you know how it turns out next week.  Wish me luck and no flames.

  1. So the bird is about to fly!! I think you've already answered all your questions in this piece. Try something new, even if it is challenging...you'll be surprised at just how much you've been craving it! you will find you have a new lease on life, that fear of the unknown is quite thrilling & its at these times that we learn new things about ourself...and if by some small chance it turns out to be a terrible move, you just try something else! Good Luck!

  2. I say go for it. That's what I always do. I get restless a lot, and I find that changing things helps in that sense.

  3. Hey Becci, I totally understand your dilemma (ping my post from just a few weeks back http://theopinionatedmanager.wordpress.com/2013/04/26/getting-started/) . That feeling of dread that a move might not work out as well as you hope, or that you will have left something that works for something that just doesn't work.
I have stayed put in my role for now.
I hope you come to a resolution that works for you.
